Carbon Unidirectional Fabrics
Lightweight carbon fiber unidirectional fabrics engineered for high stiffness and strength in performance-critical structures — delivering exceptional directional reinforcement for aerospace, motorsport, UAV and advanced industrial composites.
What Are Carbon Unidirectional Fabrics?
Carbon unidirectional (UD) fabrics are reinforcement materials in which continuous carbon fiber tows are aligned in a single direction and held together with a light stitching yarn or binder. Because the fibers run parallel without crimp, the fabric delivers maximum tensile strength and stiffness along the fiber direction — making it the preferred reinforcement for laminates where load paths are known and weight savings are critical.
Mahaveer Composites supplies carbon UD fabrics in a range of areal weights and widths, suitable for hand layup, vacuum infusion, RTM, prepreg and press molding processes. They are widely used in aerospace, motorsport, UAV, marine, sporting goods and high-performance industrial composite structures where every gram matters.
Compared with glass UD fabrics, carbon UD provides significantly higher strength and stiffness at lower weight, making it the material of choice for performance-critical and weight-sensitive applications.

Construction Options
Unidirectional carbon fabrics are available in different constructions to suit different layup methods.
Stitched Carbon UD
Carbon tows aligned in one direction and held together with a light polyester stitch — suitable for hand layup and infusion.
Powder-Bound Carbon UD
Carbon tows held with a light powder binder instead of stitching, giving a cleaner surface and good drape.
Carbon UD Prepreg
Unidirectional carbon fabric pre-impregnated with a controlled resin system for consistent composite manufacturing.
Key Performance Characteristics
Why carbon unidirectional fabrics are chosen for performance-critical structures.
High Strength & Stiffness
Aligned carbon fibers provide exceptional tensile strength and stiffness along the fiber direction, ideal for load-path-specific reinforcement.
Lightweight Reinforcement
Carbon UD offers one of the best strength-to-weight ratios among composite reinforcements, supporting weight reduction in performance structures.
Excellent Fatigue Resistance
Carbon fiber laminates maintain stiffness and strength under repeated cyclic loading, supporting long service life in demanding applications.
Low Thermal Expansion
Carbon fiber laminates show low thermal expansion, supporting dimensional stability in precision and high-temperature environments.
Design Flexibility
Carbon UD plies can be oriented in multiple directions to tailor stiffness and strength to specific load paths in a laminate.
Process Compatibility
Stitched, powder-bound and prepreg constructions suit hand layup, vacuum infusion, RTM and press molding processes.
Carbon UD vs Glass UD

|---|---|---|
| Strength & Stiffness | Higher strength and stiffness | Good mechanical properties |
| Weight | Lower density — lighter laminates | Higher density |
| Cost | Higher cost per kg | Lower cost per kg |
| Electrical Conductivity | Electrically conductive | Non-conductive |
| Typical Use | Aerospace, motorsport, UAV, high-performance structures | General composites, marine, construction, wind energy |

Quality-Focused Carbon Fabric Supply
Carbon UD fabric performance depends on consistent tow quality, uniform fiber alignment and secure stitching or binding. We work with production partners who monitor these parameters to deliver fabrics that maintain their orientation during layup and produce predictable laminate properties.
Our role is to help customers select the right areal weight, tow size, width and construction for their process, and to confirm specifications before production.
- ✓ Confirmation of areal weight, tow size, width and roll length before supply
- ✓ Guidance on stitch or binder type for the intended layup process
- ✓ Support for hand layup, vacuum infusion, RTM, prepreg and press molding
- ✓ Consistent supply for repeat orders and project schedules
